SMOKE ALARM SERVICES

11. Smoke Alarm Battery Replacement Add-On

The Smoke Alarm Battery Replacement Add-On provides replacement of backup batteries in qualifying hardwired smoke alarms or combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms during a scheduled service visit.

This service applies only to permanently installed wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted alarms that are hardwired and include backup battery backup functionality.

Qualifying Systems

This service is limited to standard residential hardwired smoke alarm systems manufactured by recognized brands such as:

• First Alert
• BRK

Cannon Electrical Services does not service, modify, or replace alarms connected to monitored security systems, including but not limited to:

• ADT
• Vector Security
• Any other monitored home security alarm systems

These systems are maintained by their respective security providers.

This service also does not apply to plug-in outlet smoke detectors or portable alarm units.

Non-Qualifying Devices

This service is intended only for properly installed residential smoke alarm systems that are part of a permanently installed safety system within the home.

For safety and liability reasons, Cannon Electrical Services may decline battery replacement service for alarm systems that do not meet minimum safety or installation standards.

Examples of non-qualifying devices may include:

• Standalone battery-only smoke detectors
• Low-cost consumer-grade detectors not designed for interconnected systems
• Devices installed by homeowners or prior occupants that do not meet proper installation standards
• Units mounted in non-compliant locations or showing visible damage
• Alarms that appear unreliable, improperly configured, or nearing end-of-life

These types of devices cannot be verified for proper system performance.

If non-qualifying devices are discovered, Cannon Electrical Services may recommend replacement with a properly installed interconnected smoke alarm system.

System Qualification & Age Evaluation

During service, Cannon Electrical Services may evaluate the visible condition and approximate age of existing smoke alarm devices.

Smoke alarms that appear to be approximately ten (10) years old or older, or that show signs of aging such as discoloration, brittleness, or deterioration, may not qualify for battery replacement service.

Modern safety standards recommend replacing smoke alarms approximately every ten (10) years to ensure reliable operation.

If replacement is recommended, Cannon Electrical Services may provide a quote for installation of a new interconnected smoke alarm system.

Homes Without Hardwired Alarm Systems

If a home does not have a hardwired smoke alarm system, Cannon Electrical Services may offer installation of a wireless interconnected smoke alarm system for an additional cost.

Wireless interconnect systems allow alarms throughout the home to communicate with each other without requiring new wiring.

Service Scope

This service includes:

• Replacement of backup batteries in qualifying smoke alarms
• Basic functional confirmation of alarm operation after battery installation

This service does not include:

• Smoke alarm replacement
• Rewiring of alarm systems
• Interconnect troubleshooting
• Code upgrades
• Installation of new alarm devices

These services may be quoted separately if needed.

Cannon Electrical Services reserves the right to decline battery replacement service if the existing alarm system does not meet minimum safety, installation, or reliability standards.

12. Smoke Alarm Operational Disclaimer

Cannon Electrical Services provides smoke alarm battery replacement as a maintenance service only and does not guarantee the performance, reliability, or lifespan of existing alarm devices that were not originally installed by our company.

Smoke alarm systems may experience issues due to:

• age or manufacturer defects
• improper installation
• wiring faults
• environmental conditions
• mixed alarm models or incompatible devices

Because these conditions are outside of Cannon Electrical Services’ control, we cannot guarantee that alarms will function properly beyond the battery replacement service performed.

Nuisance Alarms

If alarms continue to:

• chirp
• randomly activate
• malfunction
• trigger nuisance alarms

after battery replacement, additional diagnostic charges may apply if the homeowner requests further investigation.

Environmental Conditions

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms may activate due to actual environmental conditions present within the home, including:

• smoke from cooking or combustion sources
• dust or airborne particles
• humidity or temperature fluctuations
• carbon monoxide presence

Cannon Electrical Services is not responsible for alarm activation caused by environmental factors.

Replacement Recommendations

Smoke alarms should generally be replaced every ten (10) years in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and modern safety standards.

If aging or unreliable devices are observed during service, homeowners may be advised to replace the existing system.

For safety reasons, it is also recommended that:

• all alarms within a home be replaced at the same time
• compatible alarm models be used throughout the system

Mixed-age systems increase the likelihood of nuisance alarms and system reliability issues.

Manufacturer & Installation Responsibility

Cannon Electrical Services fully stands behind smoke alarm systems installed by our company, subject to manufacturer warranty terms and proper installation conditions.

Existing alarm systems installed by previous contractors, homeowners, or third parties are not covered under Cannon Electrical Services workmanship warranty.

16. General Safety & Access Disclaimer

All CannonCare™ services, inspections, and maintenance visits are performed only in areas that are reasonably safe and accessible at the time of service.

Cannon Electrical Services reserves the right to decline, postpone, or discontinue service if conditions present a safety concern to personnel, the homeowner, or the property.

Access Limitations

Services are limited to readily accessible areas within the home.

Cannon Electrical Services is not responsible for inspecting or servicing electrical components that are:

• concealed within walls, ceilings, or finished structures
• blocked by furniture, appliances, storage items, or construction materials
• located in areas that cannot be safely accessed during the visit
• located within locked rooms or restricted spaces

Furniture, stored items, and personal belongings will not be moved during inspection or service visits.

Ladder & Height Limitations

Certain services, including smoke alarm maintenance and electrical inspections, may require ladder access.

For safety reasons, Cannon Electrical Services may decline to service devices located:

• in vaulted ceilings
• above stairwells
• above ceilings that exceed safe ladder access
• in locations where stable ladder placement is not possible

Additional charges or specialized equipment may be required for elevated or difficult-to-access devices.

Attic, Crawlspace & Environmental Conditions

Work in attics, crawlspaces, unfinished basements, or exterior areas may be declined if conditions are considered unsafe.

Examples may include:

• extreme temperatures
• standing water or moisture
• pest or rodent activity
• unsafe structural conditions
• restricted physical access

Advisory Nature of Inspections

All CannonCare™ inspections are visual and non-invasive evaluations performed at the time of service.

Inspections:

• do not include destructive testing
• do not include concealed wiring inspection
• do not constitute a full electrical certification of the property
• reflect visible conditions at the time of inspection only

Electrical systems may develop issues after the inspection date due to normal wear, environmental conditions, or homeowner modifications.

Right to Decline Service

Cannon Electrical Services reserves the right to decline or discontinue service if conditions are deemed unsafe, non-compliant, or outside the scope of the selected service.

When possible, alternative recommendations may be provided.
